The Playstation 2 (PS2) was released in 2000. The backwards capability put it ahaead of its competetion at the time and dominated the market, selling over 140 million units. Online capability was brought in after the release of the Xbox, via a network adapter add-on. This functionality was later included via a built-in ethernet port on the slim PS2.
